Facilities
UndergroundBackups offers a wide range of storage services from our data center located in the Springfield Underground in Springfield Missouri. At approximately 85 feet underground, our facility is not only state-of-the-art, but one of a kind. If your seeking the ultimate solution for data backup, disaster recovery, business resumption planning, and/or industry compliance, UndergroundBackups is IT!

Security
Security is based on a combination of posted security guards, security cardkey access levels, visual inspection, video monitoring, and biometrics. Individual data buildings have been constructed to provide a “building in a building” concept. This concept delineates the access security to a more restrictive level.

Electric
Four electric substations are all located within 2 miles of the site. A 161 kV transmission line crosses the development adding additional reliability by tying in City Utilities’ McCartney Generating Station. This facility offers a total of 100 MW from (2) 50 Mw gas fired combustion turbines all within 3 miles of the Springfield Underground. Specifically within the data center, the utility power is N+1 backed-up and conditioned by parallel redundant UPS’s. Additionally, a 2 MW generator stands by ready to provide back-up power in the unlikely event of an interruption. All electric transformation, switchgear, distribution, UPS’s, and back-up generation, including fuel are located underground to ensure continuous operations during a natural/unnatural event.

Environmental
A three pipe chilled water system serves the underground’s cooling requirements via redundant Liebert units to precisely control the environment within each building. All system chillers and ancillary equipment are located underground to ensure continuos operations during a natural/unnatural event. One of the many benefits of being underground is that the natural air temperature is 60° - 64°F year-round, which serves to naturally provide the ideal computing atmosphere. Additionally, two dehumidification units maintain 50% humidity within the common area to enhance the mine’s natural environment. Fire suppression within each building is provided by FM-200 fire protection systems. The common area is protected by a double interlock zoned sprinkler system to ensure loss prevention. Fire detection is not only provided by standard smoke and ionization detection systems, but also VESDA is utilized within areas of the facility.
